Link to South Carolina members' site Announcements National Defender will no longer be mailed: Beginning in July 2010, a monthly National Defense message will be posted on the DAR Members’ Web Site (http://members.dar.org) to be read at monthly chapter meetings. Rising postal costs and new sizing regulations of the U.S. Postal Service along with a reduction in the number of paid subscriptions make continued publication and mailing of the National Defender cost prohibitive.
Chapter Collections Soup labels, Boxtops, Coupons and Dimes If you have collected any of the following items, please bring them to each chapter meeting:
1. Campbells Labels for Education. http://www.labelsforeducation.com/. We collect soup labels for DAR schools. This will be the responsibility of the DAR Schools chairman. The chairman will collect the labels at each meeting and will mail them once a year to the schools we have designated.
2. Boxtops for Education: Any product that carried the Boxtops for Education logo is eligible. Check out the website to see which ones qualify. This program, along with the soup labels will be handled by the DAR schools committee. http://www.boxtops4education.com/Default.aspx
3. Overseas Coupon Program. (Coupons for Troops) - Each Sunday, cut out the Manufacturers coupons, bring them to our meeting. This project will be handled by the Patriot Project Committee and will be mailed out once every 3 months. Please cut out the coupons before bringing them, sort them into two stacks: food and non food items, and paper clip them together. Do not bring store or restaurant specific coupons as they can not be used at the PBX by the troops or their families. Do not worry about the expiration date, as the PBX will accept them up to 6 months past the expiration date. By mailing them every 3 months, we will ensure no coupons are more than 6 months old when they arrive at the base. The website is http://www.ocpnet.org/default.htm
4. Dimes for Seimes: Bring your extra dimes to each meeting for the Seimes Technology Center. In December, 2010, we will donate all funds collected over the year. The technology committee will handle this collection. Discontinued Program
1. "Stamps for Veterans" - In the past, we have collected cancelled stamps for Veterans. This has become a difficult collection, as there are very few places who will now accept the stamps, and then, only if they have not meet their quota for the year. If you have been collecting stamps, bring them to the February meeting and give them to Jacci, but DO NOT collect any more. The board feels there are other more effective collections that will be of greater benefit to veterans, so we will discontinue this project as a chapter. One-time Collections
1. Recycled Cards for St Jude’s Ranch - This project only accepts cards between Nov 15 and Feb 28 of each year. Any chapter member wishing to participate can save cards from all occasions. However, all donated cards should be submitted at the January chapter meeting, and will be mailed in one batch. This will not be a committee function; simply a personal volunteer activity, and we will only accept cards in January. The website is http://stjudesranch.org/help_card.php
